Neil Gaiman vs. Hugo Awards

Worldcon 2023 in Chengtu, China, is involved in a controversy over the Hugo Awards, with several authors and works being deemed “ineligible” by the committee. One work removed this way was an episode of “Sandman” based on the comic written by Neil Gaiman. Gaiman took to Facebook to voice his displeasure to the convention committee.

The controversy revolves around the decision that the “Sandman” series as a whole was considered ineligible because there were too many votes for individual episodes. With one specific episode now deemed ineligible, Gaiman argues that the entire series should now be eligible. This implies that there are still “Sandman” episodes eligible, and he hasn’t been eliminated entirely. Gaiman then goes on to accuse the Hugos of lacking transparency in their process.
