DIVINITY COMICS ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF OFFICIAL NWI COMICON
[Merrillville, Indiana] – The dynamic duo behind Divinity Comics, an Indiana Nonprofit Corporation, Mike and Mindy Wheeler, today announced their latest groundbreaking venture: the Official NWI Comicon. This new convention represents another milestone in the Wheelers’ impressive journey of independent entrepreneurship in the comics industry.
Known for their “do-it-ourselves” approach, the Wheelers have consistently demonstrated their commitment to building a self-sufficient ecosystem within the indie comics space. Their track record includes the successful establishment of Divinity Comics publishing house, the launch of the industry news platform Comics Illustrated, and the creation of their printing subsidiary, Printing Comics—all funded through reinvested revenue from their highly successful crowdfunding campaigns.
“The Official NWI Comicon is a natural evolution of our mission to support and grow the independent comics community,” says Mike Wheeler. “We’ve built our business on the principle of self-reliance, and this convention will embody that same spirit.”
In a bold move that demonstrates their commitment to supporting creative professionals, the Wheelers announced that all tables for artists and publishers will be provided free of charge. Additionally, to ensure accessibility while maintaining security, admission to the convention will be set at just $1 per attendee, serving primarily for identity verification and fraud prevention. Children will be allowed access free of charge.
The convention aims to provide a unique platform for independent creators, publishers, and fans to connect, celebrating the vibrant diversity of the comics medium. Drawing from their extensive experience in publishing, news coverage, and printing, the Wheelers are uniquely positioned to create an event that understands and serves the needs of the comics community. The community will also be able to experience a wide variety of panels and curated educational material.
Mindy Wheeler adds, “Having been on all sides of the industry—as creators, publishers, and service providers—we understand what makes a great convention. We’re excited to bring that knowledge to Official NWI Comicon.”
