On the eleventh of October, the founder of ISOM and Good Shepherd, Berin Gilfillan (@ceoisomorg), announced on X that it was “necessary” to serve Eric July/Rippaverse LLC with a lawsuit over the trademark of ISOM. He provided several reasons behind the decision, but the main one seems to be the “likelihood of confusion” between the acronym of a nonprofit organization and the name of July’s comic book character.
Gilfillan stated, “Specifically, and among other things, Good Shepherd is concerned about Mr. July’s prolific use of unacceptable swear words. Being associated with that usage is deeply troubling to us, and even more disturbing is when Mr. July uses the name of Jesus Christ in vain.”
