It’s Backwards?!
For first-time readers, manga can seem a bit foreign, but you’ll get used to it quickly. Unlike books in the West, where we read left to right, manga is read from right to left—even the covers of manga books are the opposite of what we’re used to.
Here’s a quick guide to help you understand how it works. Follow the arrows on the next few pages to navigate your way through the layout. You’ll start at the top right-hand corner and work your way across the page, moving downward.
Important Note: When flipping through a manga, remember to start from the back cover and move forward. This might feel counterintuitive at first, but you’ll soon get the hang of it.
Quick Tips
- Page Order: When reading, remember that you’ll need to read page 71 before page 70, then 73 before 72.
- Flow of Panels: Within each page, follow the panels from right to left, top to bottom.
- Dialogue Bubbles: Similarly, read dialogue bubbles from right to left and from top to bottom.
If you follow these tips, you’ll be reading manga like a pro in no time.
Enjoy!
